Weather and Climate
|
Visitors should be prepared for all types of weather, they should bring rain gear and wear layers. The Ocean influences constant weather of mid 40s to low 60s on California's Coastline. The winters are cool with a great amount of precipitation. This is a result of a series of storms driven by a high pressure area sitting stop of the North Pacific. During these months, October to April, 60 to 80 inches of rain fall.
During the summer, the high pressure area migrates north making it very dry. The California Current pulls warm surface water way from the coast, bringing deeper, colder ocean water to the shore. Where this cold ocean and warm coastline meet, moisture is created. The water created from the moisture is carried into river canyons, and provides the redwoods with the proper water that they need to thrive. |
